Sometimes both sides of the correspondence have been preserved, but this is rare. As part of my ongoing research for my novel, I’ve been reading the romantic and erotic correspondence of couples whose private letters have been published due to their literary and/or historic value. (You can find Trish at SunshineReads. It’s a deliciously “dirty” job, but a writer of historical erotic fiction has to do it. If you don’t see one linked farther up on the page, and you have a website or Amazon page for the author, please let me know, thanks!) (Note from Tymber: I’m in the process of adding Amazon page links for each author. Keep up the great work! Maybe, just maybe, Hollywood will take notice and make another movie from one these authors. So without further ado, I want to give praise to the awesome authors who have dared to write about it. Most of these authors write SSC.ĭo your research about the lifestyle before practicing anything you read in the books or see in the movies, don’t run out and buy a whip and think that’s all it takes. I’d say SSC (Safe Sane Consensual) but some practice/write RACK (Risk-aware consensual kink) and PRICK (Personal responsibility, informed consensual kink). Please always remember that there is no one way to do BDSM just as long as it is consensual. Some are more hard-core than others, some write more than one genre, and of course some are way better than others. This is not saying I endorse everything in their books. These are the ones I believe have a more realistic portrayal of the lifestyle in their books.

(IMO)īy all means this is not a complete list, nor does it mean I’ve read everything each one has written. These are a list of authors who are in the lifestyle or have done excellent research into the lifestyle. I’m happy that book/movie has brought BDSM into the mainstream and has opened the door for conversations. I’m just saying these people are better, in my opinion. Don’t yell at me, I’m not bashing her or anything.

I think these men & women deserve as much or more accolades than that one author. There are a lot of authors out there who have written BDSM books before and after E.L. With the movie FSoG coming out and all the hype that is going along with it, I feel that I need to give credit where credit is due.

This is my first public writing of any kind so be gentle. Thank you Tymber for letting me put this out there for the world. Feel free to chime in in the comments if you want to add some of your favorite authors to this list. She’s compiled a list of some of her favorite BDSM authors. (Note: My bestie, Trish, is an AVID reader and fantastic friend not just to me, but to many authors.
